This website explains how you can make direct database connections to a view of the Econjobmarket database that contains data that is specific to your organization. This view will look like a standard mysql database.
The reason you might want such a connection is to transfer your application data from the econjobmarket website to your own local server. From there, you might run your own evaluation software to view application data and rank candidates (you can use the free drupal module available here to do that if you want). You may also want this data on your local server in a form more suitable for research. Or you may simply want to create a backup of your data after the recruiting season finishes.
At time of writing, a number of institutions are using this method to gather applicant information for their local websites. UBC, Toronto, Simon Fraser University all have their own (lamp) evaluation systems and import data from this site. Berkeley Haas imports data for use in a windows based database system, and Watson Education imports data using a windows based mysql setup.
To set up your view, you will need a username and password that matches a 'manager' account at Econjobmarket. A manager at Econjobmarket is a recruiter account that can create and delete users. To check if you have such an account, you can go to the Econjobmarket Site, log in with your usual account as a recruiter, then check to see if the main menu offers you the option to Manage Users. If it does, you can proceed and follow the instructions here. If you don't see that option, you can only review applications. Then you will need to contact someone in your organization who does have such an account. They will be able to set you up.
If you have a 'manager' account at Econjobmarket.org, then click on this link and log in to this website using your existing Econjobmarket username and password. (If you login is successful, this will create an account for you on this website).
At that point, you can configure your backend by following the link called 'Ejm Backend Setup'. This process will create your database along with the public and private keys that you will eventually use to support port forwarding. You can then follow the links under Backend Documentation to configure your local server for port forwarding. You will then be ready to access your data.
If you don't have a recruiter account at Econjobmarket, you will not be able to access any data here. To apply for a recruiter account at ejm go to the econjobmarket website.
